Alex - Monkey as a VERB is Cool

Chris Ronan @ 27 Oct 2004 :: Business :: comments (1)

Yesterday we installed a Wiki for RD2. I wanted to experiment with a Wiki to see if we could get some value out of this form of information sharing. I was talking to the class today about how I was “monkey-ing” around with the Wiki, trying to figure it out last night, and Alex pointed out that this was the first time he had heard the work “monkey” used as a verb in our office this month. Now, it is hard to tell when Alex is being sarcastic, but I think that in his little way he was correcting me for using this work in a way that was unusual. I just want to say that I will continue to use the word “monkey” as a verb from now on … Sorry Alex.

The right employment strategy

Bryan J Busch @ 21 Oct 2004 :: Business :: comments (1)

I come from a guerilla-style, one-man-army type of mindset where web development is concerned, and collaborating on building a web site, what is essentially a creative endeavor, is still growing on me as The Way to Do It. RD2 employs a strategy that recognizes the fact that people are more right-brained, or more left-brained, and very seldom will you find someone who is perfectly balanced. While it’s true that a person can handle both design tasks and information architecture tasks, we realize that a person is likely to be good at one and not so much at the other. (more…)

Me Like the Ronan Shoe

I totally dig the Ronan Shoe. Wish they had one in RD2 colors. In any case, I will have a pair soon. Any color preferences anyone?

Too young for pizza?

Leia Scofield @ 14 Oct 2004 :: Culture :: comments (0)

When I asked Bryan what I wanted for lunch, he replied “Pizza.” This sounded like a good plan to me, so I set about searching for a local pizza establishment. Pizza Hut is the closest, and I decided to check out their web site for my eating options.

In order to see the menu options, you must register on their site. I selected the new version of the registration form, as I was offered a choice between their new and old interfaces. I entered my information, clicked “Next”, and was greeted with the following error message:

We are unable to process your registration at this time. In order to register for Internet ordering through pizzahut.com you must be of a certain age. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Apparently the “certain age” is older than 26.

The New Girl’s View of RD2

Leia Scofield @ 11 Oct 2004 :: Culture :: comments (0)

When I first met the team at RD2, I was impressed not only by the work in their portfolio, but by the atmosphere they have created. It’s obvious in the way they talk about each other that every person here respects and admires the abilities of their co-workers. And they should. There is incredible talent here, and I’m excited that I get to be a part of the excellent work RD2 is doing.

What will I be doing here? Whatever I can. Be it wireframing a site to coding its HTML, wherever I can fit into the RD2 process, I will.

I’m also excited that I’m working for a company with a blog. I have been keeping a blog since 2000 and organize a community of local bloggers, so I’m very interested in this medium. I think blogs are a fascinating look into a person’s or, in our case, a company’s life. With this blog, you get to see what is on our individual and collective minds. It serves as a repository for our research. It reminds us that maybe we should reconsider that scone. It offers our clients a glimpse into the people and the company that create their work.

I’m looking forward to posting here about our culture, our work, and the best of what I find on the internet (and there are a lot of good things!).
