It took a man from New Zealand from California to get me to Sammy’s in Dallas for the first time today. Mmmm Good! Now this is great barbeque.
Andy Lark was in to see us today from LogLogic, fresh in from his trip to Tokyo. We usually start our work sessions by talking about the cool new web software. Today we started out by looking at Quickbase, Dabble and a few really cool plug-ins for Word Press that cuts through the spam clutter and organizes cumbersome draft folders.
Safe travels, Andy!

Walls are up. Tape and bedding is mostly complete. Still a long way to go but we are seeing some progress. This is going to be awesome.
It has been great watching the success of Southest Airline’s corporate blog, Nuts About Southwest since launch two months ago. Last week, Easton Ellsworth reviewed the blog on BusinessBlogWire.com.
From Ellsworth:
“Yes! Finally! A corporate blog that emphasizes its visitors! I’m impressed.”
“Now this is the way corporate blogs should be - conversational, friendly, open and even fun. Way to go Southwest!”

This acclaim from such an authority on the subject is very exciting for all of us!
Note: The review was followed up Friday with a post on how well Southwest responded to the review and its comments.

A few years back, I made another one of these efforts to get back in shape. We formed a team, in partnership with my old company and Plano Cycling and Fitness. We had a great little team. One of the members was Craig Miller…
So, I ran into Craig the other day and he invited me to a ride that he was going to be doing. This was to be a four hour ride, during the week, in the hot Texas sun. For a guy who has been riding in the morning, riding under the sun in 96 degree weather was something that made me just a little squeemish. In any case, Craig assured me that the pace would be manageable and that everything would be just fine.

“So what’s with this sitting in stuff,” I was thinking to myself as we rounded the corner heading towards the water plant about thirty minutes east of downtown Dallas. I was just sick of the comeback. Tired and weary of the effort. It’s been 90 days now and I have had three rides that I consider to be worth remembering. I know I am a big baby, and should expect that this effort to achieve personal fitness should never be a cake walk…But damn it, I was in the mood to kill for just a few crumbs.
There was a long stretch of road where a group was dangling a couple of hundred meters ahead of us. So I decided to try out the body and the bike. I have this little thing that I imagine. My legs are pistons in a giant V8 engine and my brain is firing like spark plugs. I imagine the explosions in my brain as the pistons are fired downward into the cylinder…my bike propels forward. Until Saturday, I could hear the rumbling of the engine. A few sputters, the occasional flooding of the engine and sometimes lurching forward and then back like I had a tank of bad gas. In one solid effort, I imagined a backfire, where behind me was a plume of black smoke…The carbon was blowing out and suddenly the firing of the spark-plugs was igniting the fuel in the compression chamber and my shrinking body lunged forward. This time, I kept accelerating, and accelerating until I reach a nice speed and just held it there. Not yet near my maximum output, but very manageable.

Walls! It still does not look like much, but we have a few walls going up. The last few weeks have called for major plumbing and electrical, but things are moving full speed ahead!

Yes, these are the essentials. My 12 in PowerBook G4, a Levenger notebook and my second can of Red Bull Energy Drink for the morning. If you read the can of this precious energy drink, you will see the following, “…It has been specially developed for times of increased mental and physical exertion. In addition, Red Bull vitalizes the body and mind.”
And it really works! Ever since I have been drinking my Red Bull, my Levenger pages have become more full and the keys on my PowerBook have been more used.
This is not an endorsement of the Red Bull product….I just like it.
I wrote a post on RSS feeds a few weeks ago. That post included chiefly secondary data (that’s marketing major speak for information I didn’t originally collect for myself). The following is an account of my personal adventure navigating RSS feeds:
Sunday night I had a dream that I lived in my house in College Station (as I do for about 9 months of the year when I’m at school), except it wasn’t my house. It was an underground house with not much above surface level but the front porch. In the dream, it’s Monday morning and I am heading out of my subterranean bedroom, up the staircase (with the ground and porch at eye level), but this crazy owl is furiously attacking the front door. There is no back door, as the house is underground, so I can’t leave. I am frazzled because this big brown bird is going to make me late for work …at RD2 …in Dallas (I guess my subconscious isn’t stellar at geography). The offensive owl is going crazy, throwing itself at the porch irately and clawing everything in sight.
Monday morning, I was introduced to RSSOwl.
Far less offensive than the aforementioned owl, RSSOwl seems to fit very well as my first reader. The interface is easy to navigate. Reading newsfeeds and following links is a breeze. It takes a little longer than I would expect to load feeds, but no dramatic issues.
I have experienced a few minor problems: (more…)
