Tourism Broadcasting

Does tourism broadcast advertising really work? Have you ever gone on vacation because of a commercial or some other advert? I had my doubts, until I saw this commercial. Maybe I’m biased because I’m a huge fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and I totally miss his movies.

What happens when you mix a David Gahan-inspired voice with electronica and high cheek bones? COVENANT, THAT’S WHAT!

The New Smashing Pumpkins?

J. Danny @ 25 Apr 2008 :: Culture :: comments (0)

On the way to work yesterday I heard a song on SIRIUS radio called Lazy Eye by the Silversun Pickups. It’s uncanny how similar they sound to the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy, is that you?

No doubt you have seen one of 300 Jack in the Box commercials that have been airing for the last several years. My favorite, by far, is “The Intern” (shown below).

What you probably didn’t know is that they’re all produced by an agency called Secret Weapon Marketing. I’ve been a fan of SWM for a long time, and what’s great about those guys is that they devote all their time to enhancing the brand of only THREE clients at a time. It’s an unorthodox approach that I think could benefit many agencies out there.

Thermo

Thermo reduced image

For a while I’ve been watching Adobe Labs and there’s some nifty stuff happening there. Thermo is a project that might just address some of the work flow needs for designers who want to more simply turn Photoshop art into prototypes for presentation or general concepting. Check out Thermo… I hope they are going where I think they are going…

Facebook Chat… Friend or Foe?

I wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts on the newly released facebook chat.

In case you haven’t been on facebook 15 times in the last twelve hours (I know, I have a problem), the chat appears as follows:

facebookchat.jpg

Chat docs in the lower right of your facebook window and tells you how many of your friends are online at any given moment. If they’re not online, you can still send them a chat (kind of like Google chat?) but they get it later (kind of like sending them a facebook message and then waiting for a response when they sign on next?). You are also updated on a friend’s facebook status as they change it (kind of like an AIM away message?).

My thoughts: I’m skeptical.

The chat windows look suspiciously Google chat - esque, which I rarely use because I already have several means (facebook messaging, IMing, texting) to get a hold of my friends quickly. I suppose the idea is that it’s unobtrusive enough to run in the background so user’s won’t disable it and make it useless (like the ultra-creepy Beacon project of a few months ago). Then people will slowly get used to the idea and start using it. That has seemed to be the pattern in the past.

It’s true, I was skeptical of mini-feed, additional applications, and several other facebook features that I currently cannot live without. So maybe I should just give up talking about it and welcome Mark Zuckerberg and the facebook overlords into another area of my personal life with open arms.

2M

The goal for 2M’s site redesign was to showcase their community, values, business, and support for the arts online.

Mort Meyerson, the CEO of 2M Companies Inc., and the rest of his team tasked RD2 to convey their mission to seek the greatest good for their communities, and operate under the principle that “philanthropy and business are purposefully intertwined.” With this vision in mind, RD2 used photography and multimedia to expressively portray many unique sides of 2m’s organization. The result is a beautiful online experience.
