My dad sent me an email last night from a friend of his who is a retired Lt. Col. He ended his email with his definition of a Veteran. Thought it was worth sharing.

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, National Guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is the honor of the Veteran and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
